The Bachelor wash up: bacon, plank offs and that white rose
THE Bachelor, one of Australia's most tweeted-about shows, returned to our screens tonight with new leading man Richie Strahan.
There was a lot to take in as the Perth hunk met 22 single women dressed to the nines and vying for his attention.
Some of the women descended into cattiness pretty quickly once the cocktail party got underway.
The new advantage associated with the white rose, introduced last year, was revealed to be a significant one: exclusive access to secret hideaway at the mansion to spend one-on-one time with Richie uninterrupted.
Only time will tell how single mum Alex plans to use the white rose.
A few other front runners in the race for Richie's heart have already emerged - Olena, Megan and Tiffany - but sadly Aimee and Natalie didn't receive roses and were sent home.
Tomboy Vintaea chose to leave voluntarily, telling Richie the show wasn't for her.
Here are our top moments from tonight's premiere of The Bachelor:
"If I get to kiss Richie I will buy Sam Frost two bottles of champagne and a jumping castle"
Brisbane-based children's entertainer Janey dresses up as a princess for work and loves everything bright, sparkling and magical.
She was hoping for her fairy tale moment when she met Richie, but not even leaving her with one of her shoes a la Cinderella could earn her that white rose.
While she freely admits her enthusiasm "might scare people away", at least she's honest.
When Richie asked what she was hoping to gain from going on the show, she didn't mince her words: "I think you're really handsome and I'd like to date you".
"I hope he's not a vegetarian, that would kind of suck but then it just means more bacon for me"
TOOWOOMBA-raised swimwear designer Noni really stuck out from the crowd with her sense of humour and love of one particular food: bacon.
The 25-year-old, who likes to empower women with her swimwear, presented Richie with a bouquet of bacon roses and asked him not to "bacon" her heart.
She also revealed she has a tattoo of the word bacon on the back of her heel.
"Is that a Russian thing?"
It's the hilarious moment you could have easily missed: Sasha casually nibbling on the petals of her rose during the first rose ceremony.
One of the other girls notices what is surely the most random point in the night.
The plank off
For some reason Eliza things it's a good idea for the women, in their full-length gowns, to have a "plank off" with Richie.
But it was Tiffany who benefited from the exercise challenge, which was one of the more candid moments of the night.
Richie decided to give Tiffany a rose, saying: "In that moment you were spontaneous, really fun,and that's something I'm really looking for in a girl".
The Bachelor continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
