Bail refused for bloodstained man after teens bashed

Sitting in the watch house with a bloodstained face, a 36-year-old man says he can't remember much of the night on which he is accused of bashing three teens in Ocean St.

Mathew Phillip Bridges was refused bail on Thursday after he spent the night at Maroochydore Watch House.

The Nambour man was arrested on Wednesday night after he allegedly assaulted three teenagers just before midnight.

Police on Thursday morning said Mr Bridges allegedly punched a 19-year-old man who fell to the ground, before pushing an 18-year-old to the ground.

Another 18-year-old was allegedly hit and knocked unconscious.

He was taken to Nambour Hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.

The remaining two teenagers were treated at the scene.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said CCTV footage, played to Maroochydore Magistrates Court, spoke for itself.

He objected to Mr Bridges being released on bail.

Sgt Potter highlighted there was no provocation.

"The victim (in the second assault) was simply walking past the defendant," he said.

"He had nothing to do with the defendant."

Duty lawyer Jason Todman said Mr Bridges was medicated for post traumatic stress disorder.

"He has little recollection due to his alcohol use," he said.

"Alcohol is a real problem for him which he needs to deal with.

"If granted bail, your honour, he will take the opportunity to find alcohol counselling."

Mr Todman said his client lived at Nambour with his partner and had no history of violence.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said there was an unacceptable risk that Mr Bridges would reoffend.

"The foundation for that is the CCTV footage I've seen of you today," Mr Stjernqvist said.

Mr Bridges is due to face court again on December 3.
