Baldies ready for Tropical Masters Cup this Easter
FOOTY fans are in for a treat this Easter as the Whitsunday Bald Eagles gears up to host the Tropical AFL Masters 12's Cup this weekend.
Individual players will be nominating to be drafted into a team for the unique competition to play off for a first place cash prize of $500 and $250 for the runner-up.
Spectators will be able to catch all the live Aussie Rules action as their favourite players take to field in four sponsored teams of the Reef Gateway Gators, the McDowell's Panels Pirates, the Shirt Front Solutions Shirt Fronters and the Prickly Pineapple Vikings.
The weekend will begin with a player draft tomorrow night (Friday, April 18) at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club from 6-10pm.
In the spirit of Good Friday, a seafood barbeque will be available for all players.
Games will be held on Saturday at the Whitsunday Sports Park from 12-4pm.
A dinner will be hosted by the Jubilee Tavern on Saturday night and all players, supporters and their families are encouraged to attend.
Teams will then return to the field to play the finals on Easter Sunday from 10am-12pm.
Jack Lumby from the Whitsunday Bald Eagles said everyone was invited to celebrate at the Reef Gateway after the final where "players will be replenishing their fluids and licking their wounds from the weekend".
"We have players aged from 36 up to the age of 72 playing in the Tropical Masters 12's Cup so it will definitely be a fantastic weekend for supporters and players' families to enjoy," he said.
Players are traveling from Sydney and as far north as Cairns as well as numerous local and regional areas to compete for bragging rights of the Masters 12's Cup.
There is also a partner program for the ladies with an island luncheon planned on Saturday.
