Bali nine member's sister faces drug charges on Coast

THE sister of Bali Nine drug mule Michael Czugaj has appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on drug charges.

Melanie Elaine Czugaj, 33, of Caboolture, sought to be admitted to the QMERIT drug rehabilitation program when she faced court yesterday charged with possession of a drug utensil that had been used and possession of a dangerous drug.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy noted she had been assessed as suitable for the program and asked if she still wanted to go into it.

"Absolutely," Ms Czugaj replied.

Under the QMERIT program, defendants charged with offences relating to illicit drug use access treatment and support services while on bail to help reform.

Ms Czugaj was warned that completion of the program would depend on her attendance and test results. She was remanded on bail for mention again early next month.

She declined to speak to media outside the court.

Her younger brother, Michael, 28, remains in Kerobokan prison.
