Best Job Ben tells dream story in new book
WHAT was it really like to live in a luxury apartment on Hamilton Island and travel the Queensland coast as a paid 'island caretaker'?
Now, winner of the 'Best Job in the World' Ben Southall, has revealed all in a book, titled 'The Best Job in the World - How to make a living from following your dreams'.
In the book, the British-born adventurer chronicles his journey through life both before, during and after the phenomenally successful 'best job in the world' marketing campaign, which propelled Queensland, the Whitsundays and him, into the international spotlight.
The book starts with the story of the years leading up to seeing that fateful newspaper advertisement for an island caretaker, when Ben was travelling the African continent in his beloved Landrover and also "trying to have an adventure" in the UK.
It details what he describes as "a beautiful moment in life" when he won the coveted 'best job' from a host of international candidates and in it, he truthfully talks about what life was really like in the whirlwind six months of having the 'busiest job in the world', while also "holding together the threads of a broken relationship". Finally, the book chronicles what Ben did next, promoting Queensland in an epic four-month paddle up the Great Barrier Reef titled the 'best expedition', which led to climbing the tallest mountains in each of Australia's territories and states on the 'Aussie 8' expedition, and now participating the 'New Zealand 9'.
According to Ben, what makes his book unique is that it is not just a memoir or travelogue, but also a manual full of tips and helpful hints to inspire other people to follow their dreams.
The book was released on November 1 and is available in book stores and online.
