IN a world of video games with high-definition graphics and massive production budgets, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker easily could be dismissed on the PlayStation Portable as being a lesser game than those on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
But, after spending days and nights sneaking through the jungles of Costa Rica, I can assure you Peace Walker is an incredible experience that puts many “big budget” games to shame.
As with previous entries in the series, the story is one the game's biggest strengths.
Set in 1974, Peace Walker has players once again entering the battlefield as Big Boss and protecting the world from the threat of another nuclear missile crisis.
The core gameplay is what you'd expect from a Metal Gear game, emphasising stealth and hiding from enemies, with the occasional intense battle against powerful mechanical foes.
And if you don't feel like playing alone, you can jump online and play cooperatively with other gamers.
But whether on your own or playing online Peace Walker is an outstanding game and serious contender for game of the year.
