BIG NIGHT FOR TOURISM

TICKETS are now on sale for the Whitsundays' night of nights, the 2014 Whitsunday Tourism and Business awards, which will be held on Saturday, October 18.

In honour of its 30th anniversary, the Proserpine Entertainment Centre will host this year's event.

It is the first time Proserpine has held the awards night in six years.

Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) Chief Executive Officer Danial Rochford said the annual event was a great occasion to celebrate the many achievements of the local business community here in the Whitsundays.

"It is a great opportunity to dress up for the occasion with our theme paying tribute to the 61 years of service to our region by Queensland Rail's legendary Sunlander Train," he said.

"So all up, it will be a massive night of celebrations."

Mr Rochford said the awards night had been opened up to the wider business community this year and that he was proud to say there had been a large increase in applications compared to previous years.

"Nominations have come in from right across the region and we are excited to announce the winners and finalists on the night," he said.

"We have 28 award categories on the night and will honour and celebrate a number of key contributors representing our local industries.

"Jump aboard this year's event and secure your tickets quickly to celebrate the Whitsundays' night of nights."

Tickets are on sale from $140.

Mr Rochford also invited everyone to vote for their favourite business in the People's Choice Award via http://www.wmdl.com.au.
