Big night for Miss Universe finalist
IN a last minute dash, Miss Universe Australia finalist Kendall Olive rushed to Myer to buy some false eyelashes before she hit the stage last night.
Speaking from Sydney, the 21-year-old Mackay based customer connection support officer for Ergon Energy was buzzing with excitement at her chances of being crowned Miss Universe Australia 2009.
Battling a cold, Kendall was up at 6.30am yesterday to have her hair done for the big event.
“We had to get up early as there were 30 girls ready to have their hair done - three groups of 10.
“At the moment I am feeling good - I might need a sugar hit soon.”
Since February it has been a rollercoaster ride for Kendall, who has been fundraising for Youth of the Nation.
She has also taken part in Shave for a Cure for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“I have been doing a lot of fundraising and I never realised how much work is involved but it is very exciting and a lot of fun.”
Kendall, along with 30 other young women, hit the red carpet at the Hilton in Sydney before taking the stage in cocktail, swimsuit and evening wear.
She said some of the celebrities and judges last night were Deborah Hutton, musician John Stevens and fashion designer Charlie Brown.
She said during the night the 30 entrants were narrowed down to the top 10, then the top five and finally the winner.
She said the top five had to take a question on any topic from a glass bowl and respond to it.
Late last night, 20-year-old TV presenter and model Rachael Finch was named the winner.
She is originally from Townsville.
