Big opportunity to boost grazing skills

GRAZIERS will have the perfect opportunity to refresh their skills next month.

Neil McDonald and Reef Catchments have come together to run a popular Working Dog and Livestock Handling Workshop in Balberra, near Mackay, on September 28-30.

Landcare facilitator of the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac regions Juliane Kasiske is supporting the event, which will equip graziers with the necessary knowledge to have a greater understanding of soil healthand pasture management.

Grazier Rhys Daniels from Theresa Downs said even experienced graziers would take something valuable out of the workshop.

"When I started down this path eight years ago ... I wouldn't suggest we had a problem with livestock before (but) the changes we made from what we learnt have made handling livestock far simpler, easier, safer, better for the animals and more profitable,” he said.

"Moving our mobs through our paddock rotations has become easy for one, that has had a flow-on effect with an improvement in our pasture management.”

There will also be a free grazier networking barbecue dinner from 6-8pm on September 29.

This will include Neil McDonald's Advanced Livestock Handling school introduction and much more.

Graziers interested in attending the three-day workshop are encouraged to bring along their dogs and swags for the experience.

Reef Catchments will offer a $200 discount for the first 15 participants to take part in the workshop.

The workshop will be held at 405 Munbura Rd, Balberra, and comes at a discounted cost of $955.

For bookings the RSVP date is September 24 and can be booked by phoning Juliane Kasiske on 0488730021.
