Big sound set to deliver
SOME of Queensland's finest musicians are bringing swing and jazz to the lawns of the Proserpine Entertainment Centre this Friday.
The Queensland Youth Orchestra's Big Band is headed our way, with their Jazz n Shiraz performance bound to get you moving in your seat.
The Big Band is one of eight orchestras and ensembles with 460 musicians run by QYO.
Made up of 18 members aged 16-20, the Big Band rehearses weekly under conductor Rafael Karlen at the Old Museum Building in Brisbane.
The band has performed at Queensland Music Festival events with James Morrison and Troy Cassar-Daley, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Mackay Festival of Arts, Brisbane Jazz Club and plenty more.
QYO singer Adelina Martinex is undertaking a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium majoring in Jazz voice and is sure to blow everyone away with her unique vocals.
As for conductor, Rafael Karlen, the talented Brisbane-based saxophonist, arranger and composer received the Lord Mayor's Fellowship for Young and Emerging Artists from the Brisbane City Council in 2011.
Attendees at Friday's Proserpine event are encouraged to bring their own chair or blankets for comfort of seating on the Entertainment Centre's lawn.
