Blues veteran Walker calls time on career
AFL: Injury-plagued Carlton veteran Andrew Walker will play his farewell game against St Kilda on Sunday after reluctantly announcing his retirement.
The No.2 pick in the 2003 AFL draft and runner-up in the Blues' best-and-fairest award in 2013 has been plagued by chronic left knee soreness for the past three seasons.
"I just can't do my job any more and I am just finding it really hard to get up every week to play AFL football,” said the 30-year-old, who was contracted until the end of the 2017 season.
"I have had some great years. It's been the best part of my life.”
Walker has played 201 games for the Blues but would have managed many more if not for injuries. They included two shoulder dislocations, which ruined his 2008 and 2009 seasons, a broken collarbone in 2010 and three operations on his left knee in 2014-15.
