Board to examine family assault deaths
A NEW independent body will examine deaths related to domestic and family violence in Queensland.
The State Government will spend $2.1 million on the independent Domestic and Family Violence Death Review Board and expand the Domestic and Family Violence Review Unit.
Treasurer Curtis Pitt also put aside $1.1 million in Tuesday's budget to increase the reach of the Domestic Violence Duty Lawyer Service operated by Legal Aid Queensland.
Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said the legal funding would make a big difference for family violence victims.
"This service will empower victims to pursue matters, smooth court processes, and improve victim safety and compliance with court orders," she said.
