Bobby D prevails in rum race

FRIDAY night Sorrentos Restaurant and Bar Rum Race continues to surprise everyone, even the skippers.

Last week, Bobby D took to the start line for the first time in a Friday race and the crew didn't disappoint skipper Ross Winterbourn.

In their first race, Bobby D proved too strong for the other crews taking out the third Friday night twilight race of the year.

Following the race Winterbourn said he was pleased to come away with the win.

“The course was interesting and challenging,” he said.

Winterbourn also said the spinnaker run was ideally suited to his beloved Bobby D.

After the race, Winterbourn said he also believed there was definitely a place for the fortnightly Friday races on the sailing calendar.

“I consider this event could evolve into a brilliant event,” he said.

The next Friday night race will be on Friday, March 18.

Anyone who is interested in racing should contact Abel Point Yacht Club commodore Rupert King on 0406 077 708.

All sailors must be at Sorrentos Restaurant at Abel Point Marina at 3pm on the day.
