Bodies found in search for couple

QUEENSLAND police searching for a slain Mt Isa couple have found two bodies in the state's far north.

It is understood the bodies of Scott Maitland, 35, and his partner Cindy Masonwells, 33, were found in bushland in far north Queensland.

The couple travelled by plane from their home in Mt Isa to Cairns late on Thursday, July 5 - and then vanished.
Brandon McGowan, 41, of Bungalow, near Cairns, was charged this week with the couple's murder but at that stage, police were yet to recover the pair's remains.

In a statement issued at midday today, police confirmed ''two bodies believed to be those of Scott Maitland and Cindy Masonwells'' had been located.

''Formal identification procedures are still to be completed and investigations are continuing,'' the statement read.
