Body found during search for boatie

A MAN'S body was found near Peel Island on Monday as police searched for a 65-year-old boatie who went missing from a dingy the night before.

Police found the body about 11.45am but the man's identity has not been confirmed.

There had been air, sea and land searches for a boatie since two men, aged 51 and 39, reported him missing about 8.30pm on Sunday.

The missing man is believed to have fallen overboard while in a small aluminium dingy travelling from Russell Island to Dunwich on Stradbroke Island, off the coast at Brisbane.

It is unclear how the 65-year-old fell from the boat but police said the two men recorded blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit when they were tested.

Investigations are continuing.
