BoM issues first flood warning for the Proserpine River

A SURFACE trough in the Central Queensland Coast is expected to produce showers and thunderstorms until Friday in the Whitsunday region.

Falls of up to 200mm may lead to localised flash flooding, the Bureau of Meteorology warned yesterday.

River level rises above the minor flood level are possible.

Since the building of the Peter Faust Dam in 1990 flooding of the Proserpine River above the four meter mark has never happened.

However the Proserpine River catchment is officially on Flood Watch.

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and creeks should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Current emergency information is available here.
