BOM issues severe thunderstorm warning for Stanthorpe

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe storm saying strong, damaging winds may impact Stanthorpe, Inglewood and Texas over the next few hours.

The area the BOM expects to be impacted stretches to the west of Stanthorpe - almost to Goondiwindi.

The warning comes as Higgins Storm Chasers take to social media to post an image of ominous clouds loomning on the horizon.

"A squall line producing damaging winds and heavy rain with bursts of frequent lightning is currently pushing through Far Southern Darling Downs and the Northern Tablelands towards the Northern Rivers / Tweed area," Higgins posted earlier this afternoon.

"These storms have a history of producing damaging wind gusts and heavy rain."
