Bond University: elitist boozers

BOND University students are smarting over criticism of an alleged culture of elitism and alcohol and substance abuse at the private Gold Coast institution.

Law student Lauren Kennard ignited fierce debate after she wrote an article accusing her peers of fostering a "culture of debauchery, elitism and snobbery".

In her article, published in the university's Scope magazine, the 19-year-old student said the "Bondie" culture was one based on excess.

"Everything is in excess - drinking, [in some cases] drugs, and debauchery. Why? Because they can. It is a culture that revolves around elitism and perceived superiority," Ms Kennard wrote.

"It is a culture where it doesn't matter what you know, but who you know, and how willing you are to spend money to get there.
