Brahmans defeated in 'physical' game

RUGBY LEAGUE: It was another hard loss for the Whitsunday Brahmans when they played Souths Sharks on Saturday night.

Playing at Les Stagg Oval, A grade left the field with a 36-12 defeat but that didn't mean the boys didn't put up a fight.

Brahmans manager Bryce Fraser said the game was fairly physical.

"We were down several of our usual players, so we were a bit under strength," he said.

"(But) we still had a very capable team."

At half-time the Brahmans were down four points with a score of 10-6, meaning they still had a shot at taking the game.

By the second half, a number of penalty counts went towards the Sharks, leaving the Brahmans with minimal time with the ball.

"We had a couple of send-offs, which didn't help us either," Fraser said.

The game wasn't short of stand-out players, with a number of the boys showing their skill.

Lona Kaifoto played a strong game after returning from playing for the Mackay Cutters.

Harry Wecker had his first game back in A grade and played a "fantastic game", Fraser said.

And playing as consistently as always was Darcy Wright.

"You always know what you're going to get when he plays," Fraser said.

"It's not good that we lost but we've got quite a few players returning next week so that should boost our strength and help us get back on the winning train again.

"We've had two losses in a row."

Next week, A grade will play against Sarina at Les Stagg Oval.

Reserve grade was also defeated on Saturday with a score of 46-4, while the under-19s left with a score of 34-14.

All three teams will play at home in Proserpine.

Mr Fraser said he expected to see the Brahmans play a winning game next week.
