Rugby League: It was after the second half of the game where the cracks began to emerge for the Mackay Souths in their clash against the Whitsunday Brahmans today.

The first 40 minutes of the game was described as a "difficult encounter” by Brahmans coach Bryce Fraser with neither side giving an inch and Souths leading 16-12.

However, after a team pep-talk from captain Phil Ramage, the tables turned and the scales tipped in favour of the Brahmans.

Harry Wecker managed to power through South's defence and played a key role toward the overall outcome of 31-18 to the Brahmans.

Fraser said Wecker showed sheer determination and proved to be a game changer.

"He was dominant up-front and made big shots in defence and piercing runs and attack,” he said.

"He was almost unanimously voted as the best player by his own team mates and no-one had a poor game, everyone pulled their weight.”

Brahman's A Grade debutant, 17 year old Taine Browne took to the field for the clash today as a winger.

Fraser said Browne looked like he belonged in the side.

"He is just out of high school and didn't look out of place at all,” he said.

"He has a bright future wherever he decides to go.”

The Brahmans are set to play a key away game against Sarina next week.

Victory will secure the Brahmans in the top three of the season ahead of the semi-finals.
