Brahmans take lessons out of defeat
RUGBY LEAGUE: A lack of discipline caused the Whitsunday Brahmans to fall short of victory against the Mackay Brothers on Sunday.
Despite drawing level at 12-12 at half time, Brothers ran away with the win after a number of unfortunate circumstances contributed to an overall result 28-12 to Brothers.
Brahmans manager Bryce Fraser said there were a number of factors going against the side.
"There were a lot of handling errors through the second half that allowed the Brothers to get good field position and score points on us," he said.
"We were hampered by injury through the first half and we lost our two wingers so we had a couple of players out of position for most of the match and by the end of the match we only had one sub.
"(But) that's not really an excuse for the result, it was poor execution through the second half when we were in scoring zones."
Fraser said there were some important lessons to take out of the game ahead of the home clash against Souths to be held this weekend.
"We need better ball security and probably a bit of self-discipline too, we need to pick ourselves up and dust off and carry on with the game," he said.
Whitsunday Brahman's captain and coach Phil Ramage will be away representing North Queensland for the upcoming clash against Souths.
Fraser said he was confident the team could still bind together quickly.
"We certainly still have the depth in the A grade side to play without (Phil)," he said.
"Souths will also be without a couple of their players."
Last night's game means the Whitsunday Brahmans have an overall result of three wins to two losses.
The Brahmans-Souths game will be played at Les Stagg Oval on Saturday with the U-19 match beginning at 3.30pm, the Reserves playing from 5pm and the A Grade game kicking off at 7pm.
