Bravehearts program to help educate kids

PRIMARY school children from right across the Whitsundays learnt valuable lessons about how to keep safe at a series of Bravehearts safety programs earlier this week.

Bravehearts acclaimed personal safety and education program, Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure show, took place at all the primary schools in Proserpine and Cannonvale and the children responded well to the live show.

Whitsunday Crisis and Counselling arranged for the show to visit the area and all children received an activity book with useful information about how to always feel safe.

Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure Show is a 40-minute live production tailored for children aged from three to eight that effectively teaches strategies and skills to stay safe in a range of situations from sexual assault to bullying.

Bravehearts Founder and Executive Director Hetty Johnston says keeping children safe is one of the most important things we do as parents, educators, carers and community members.

"To do this Bravehearts is equipping children with the knowledge and skills they need to avoid risky situations and give them an understanding of their rights to protect their own body," she says.

Bravehearts are also running a community training workshop at the Whitsunday Christian College for parents, parent groups and anyone working with children on October 14.
