Man seriously injured in crash

Update 7.55am: THE man who was seriously injured in a crash at Palmyra on Sunday night has been flown to Townsville Hospital.

The 23-year-old was was travelling along on the Walkerston-Homebush Rd, when he collided with a power pole just after 7pm.

He was the only person of the car at the time and was taken to the Mackay Base Hospital with serious head injuries.

He was later airlifted by Royal Flying Doctor Service to Townsville Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition. 

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash. 

Earlier: A man injured in a crash on the Walkerston-Homebush Rd at Palmyra Sunday night has been taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.

A QAS spokesman said the man had been treated at the scene for head injuries.

Emergency services crews are still at the scene and a Queensland Police media spokesman said it was too early to say what had happened. He said the utility the man had been travelling in had been found in a ditch on the rural road.

INITIAL: PARAMEDICS are treating a man for serious injuries after a single-vehicle crash in a rural area south of Mackay.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said ambulance, police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were at the scene of the crash on Walkerston-Homebush Rd.

He said the vehicle had gone off the road but it was not clear at this stage what had caused the crash. Emergency services were called at 7.15pm.
