BREAKING: Yacht runs aground off Grassy Island
IN blustery 18-20 knot winds at the northern reach of the Whitsundays a yacht competing in the 2016 Airlie Beach Race Week has run aground.
John Moody also racing in the event said the yacht called Frantic at the end of a down-wind run had trouble getting her spinnaker in.
"They were unable to drop it and the wind dragged them sideways on to the rocks," he said.
Mr Moody said it all happened very quickly off the south eastern side of Grassy Island.
The eight people on board were picked up by Ocean Affinity and dropped at the Port of Airlie.
No one was hurt.
