Buchanan back on top of the world in Austria

AUSTRALIA'S 'Queen of the Dirt', Caroline Buchanan, has won her second world championship in less than two months, taking out the 4X (four-cross) final at the mountain bike world championships in Austria.

Buchanan, who won the BMX world crown in Auckland in July, dominated the competition to beat Katy Curd from Great Britain and France's Celene Gros.

It was the third world 4X title for Buchanan, who won the event in 2009 and 2010 before concentrating on BMX in the lead-up to the London Olympics.

Four-cross is a style of mountain bike racing that involves four competitors racing downhill on a BMX-like track, overcoming debris and jumps as well as opponents.

Buchanan, who also competes in the downhill category in the mountain bike class, said the hard work switching between disciplines had paid off.

"This is my fifth career world championship title and it was one of the hardest to win," she said. "It's not easy, but the hard work is worth it. Time to breathe and take stock."
