Budget roadshow begins
CHRISTINA della Valle has lived in the Whitsundays for 25 years and says this is the council that gives her hope.
Ms della Valle was one of about 20 members of the public in attendance as the budget roadshow got underway on Monday night at the Reef Gateway Hotel.
"I've lived here for 25 years... I went to numerous council meetings and you could get up and ask questions but you always had the impression that they didn't really listen to what the people had to say. Once elected it was kind of like, 'oh we just do what we want.' Now it seems under Andrew Willcox they really come as a united front and listen to people. I've never seen anything like this before," she said.
Leola Adams is a third generation Airlie Beach local and said council was still failing to address the car parking issue.
"It was completely omitted (in the budget)," she said.
"Every single day a business suffers in Airlie Beach because of car parks."
Jonathan Peters has lived in Airlie Beach for 18 years and agreed that there was something different about the current council.
"They're making an effort. I think the fact they've done this is a good thing its just disappointing more people don't come," he said.
