Burgers and beers for Whitsunday boaties
THE barbeque is already smoking for the Abell Point Yacht Club's (APYC) first social event of 2015 - a 'Burgers and Beers' get-together tomorrow night.
APYC membership officer and barbeque chef Kevin Collins said about 50 people had already RSVP'd with more expected on the night.
Mr Collins attributed this strong response to the fact that the club was now focused on catering to all types of pleasure craft, including power boats.
"And it's also the fact we're incorporating a number of events that are based on social camaraderie and spending time on your boat no matter what it looks like," he said.
Tomorrow's event, starting at 6.30pm in the turfed area of the Abell Point Marina's south village, is a chance for the APYC committee to spread its message about being an events-driven social boating club that also incorporates long-standing yacht races.
APYC media officer Luke McCaul said the committee would be presenting some of its ideas for the 2015 calendar on the night, including a sunset dinner on Whitehaven Beach, a Reef Rendezvous and a weekend on Hamilton Island with a game of golf, as well as the ever-popular Coral Coast Rally and Cruise and Warri Cup.
Those who sign up to join the APYC tomorrow night will be able to do so for a one-off heavily discounted rate.
RSVP's will still be accepted until close of business today (Thursday, February 12) and can be made via email to abellpointyc@gmail.com.
The evening is free of charge to attend.
