A BLOOMSBURY man was airlifted to the Mackay Base Hospital on Sunday, February 16, after suffering extensive burns.

At 2:20pm, the RACQ-CQ Rescue helicopter was tasked to a property, 5km south of Bloomsbury, where the 44-year-old man had burns to 18 per cent of his body after a petrol can exploded.

The man was stabilised and transferred to hospital arriving just before 4pm.

A Queensland Health spokeswoman said he was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for treatment in a specialist burns unit on Monday.

He was reportedly in a stable condition at this time.
