Burst water pipe proves big headache in Shute
A PROBLEM water main in Shute Harbour has been causing a big headache for residents.
Bay Tce local Tess Kennedy said the water pipe, which burst last fortnight, had been improperly repaired by the council numerous times.
"It's been about four times and we don't get compensation from council,” Ms Kennedy said.
"We get guests here as well, so it's really annoying.
"We have to give buckets to the guests (when the pipe breaks) if they want to brush their teeth.”
Ms Kennedy said the council had failed to fix "the root of the problem”.
"It's just so frustrating because they never do anything about it,” she said.
"I don't know if they changed whatever is leaking there, but they just put gravel on top of the burst pipe.”
A council representative said the Bay Tce water main was scheduled for a full replacement this financial year.
The new 100mm diameter water main is budgeted at $80,000.
The representative said a design was ready and works would be handled in-house.
