UPDATE: One woman remains in hospital after van crash
ONE woman remains in hospital after the mini van crash from Wednesday afternoon.
The 23-year-old woman is in a stable condition after receiving multiple lacerations and will remain in hospital for observation.
A total of eight females ranging from 23 - 28 years of age went to the Bundaberg Hospital around 6pm yesterday following the rollover.
Seven of the patients were discharged overnight after receiving treatment for minor injuries. It is believed the Toyota Hi Ace van was overloaded at the time of the crash. Investigations are continuing.
What we know:
- A mini bus crashed on Batchlers Rd about 4.15pm
- It is believed up to 14 people were involved
- Two people had serious injuries including a broken arm, leg and pelvis
- Five people had minor injuries and were taken to Bundaberg Hospital
UPDATE 5.30pm QAS Wide Bay senior operations manager Martin Kelly said there were initially two buses travelling together and after the first bus crashed, the second took 11 people to a nearby farm.
Bundaberg police had to go to the farm to retrieve the backpackers and return them to the scene.
Five more were assessed and transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Two of the backpackers, who remained at the crash, were transported with severe injuries including a broken leg.
UPDATE 5.05pm: A SECOND mini van with more people has arrived on the scene.
The occupants are being interviewed by police.
UPDATE 5PM: EMERGENCY services are looking for 11 people who were in the van when it crashed but left the scene before help arrived.
QAS fear they may be injured.
It is believed there were 14 non-English-speaking people in the van when it crashed and may not understand that they must remain on scene after a crash.
Two patients are now being checked in the back of an ambulance.
Another is being assessed outside the van.
UPDATE 4.40pm: PARAMEDICS are treating a woman in the driver's seat of the van - it is unsure if she is the driver.
UPDATE 4.35pm: EMERGENCY crews are working to free the driver of a mini bus after it crashed in North Bundaberg.
A child is helping to communicate to the driver of the bus as it is believed the driver does not speak English.
The crash happened near a cane plantation.
Paramedics are checking patients and an emergency worker is sawing the window of the van open.
EARLIER: EMERGENCY services are on the way to a bus rollover at North Bundaberg.
The crash happened on Batchlers Rd, North Bundaberg.
People are asked to avoid the area if possible.
