THE disappearance of a former Whitsunday woman from a private yacht in Thailand in 2012, has resurfaced in the media this week, with claims that there are further investigative avenues to pursue.

Carmel Brookes and her partner Dr Gerry Goeden lived in Airlie Beach for about 10 years. In 2007 they sailed to Malaysia and settled in Penang. On the night of February 2, 2012, the couple were sailing their 47-foot yacht Moondancer from Langkawi, Malaysia, to Phuket in Thailand.

According to statements obtained from Dr Goeden at the time, Ms Brookes is believed to have fallen overboard while on watch at night about 53 nautical miles southeast of Phuket.

Almost a week after her disappearance, the search for Ms Brooke's was called off.

Nonetheless, her Brisbane-based brother Bill Heang has never given up the fight to find out more about the night his sister disappeared.

In October 2012, Ms Brooke's disappearance and her family's quest for answers was the subject of a story on Channel 7's Sunday Night program.

The program reported that Dr Goeden had a previous relationship, which ended when his then wife died after falling from a waterfall.

This week, a Fairfax media report said Mr Heang believed his sister changed her will just months before her disappearance, leaving nearly everything to Dr Goeden.

According to the report, Dr Goeden was approached about these latest concerns but he declined to comment.

The report also said the Australian Federal Police would work with the Queensland Police to review all available material regarding Ms Brooke's disappearance to determine any available avenues for investigation.
