THEY are the cameras which are quickly becoming a popular sight strapped onto helmets, motorbikes, surfboards and even aircraft.

Action cameras such as GoPros, Contours and similar products made by big name electronics companies like Panasonic and Sony are allowing people to capture action in a new point of view.

Toowoomba pilot Roy Dawson has created the perfect example of how these high-definition, affordable compact video cameras can be put to use.

Mr Dawson fastened his GoPro camera to the front of his Air Tractor at-301 crop duster as he took to the skies over a sorghum farm near Cecil Plains.

The result is a fluid, almost majestic view of crop fields over the Darling Downs as a calm, well-trained pilot navigates his way through cornflower blue skies.

"It was just for a bit of fun, but after seeing how good the results were I'm now trying a bunch of new angles too," Mr Dawson said.

But how people choose to use the cameras is all up to their imagination.

"In Toowoomba, you mostly get dirt bikers (buying the cameras)," Harvey Norman Electrical imaging department salesman Eddie Yates said.

"We probably have about 12 (people) a week coming in asking for them...that's just the GoPro!"
