CQ Senator Matt Canavan ‘in dark’ on Barnaby Joyce saga

QUEENSLAND Senator Matt Canavan has denied knowing of a relationship between Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and a staffer when she was hired to work in his office.

Vikki Campion was transferred from Mr Joyce's office to a media adviser role in Senator Canavan's office in April 2017.

Senator Canavan confirmed that Mr Joyce had signed off on Ms Campion's appointment but said he had "no knowledge" of their affair.

"I had no knowledge of the relationship between Joyce and Campion at the time," he said.

A spokeswoman said Ms Campion was employed in his office to "fulfil a specific communications role".

"Ms Campion was suitably qualified for this role given her long history as a media professional," she said.
