Canecutters hold their nerve
CRICKET: For the second week in a row, Valleys went down in another thriller as Canecutters held their nerve to win by five runs.
Batting first, Canecutters lost the early wicket as Ricky Parslow (2/21), in his last game for Valleys, made the early breakthrough.
Youngster Cooper Lane (21) combined well with opening batsman Scott Milne with the pair putting on 57 before Mike Hope (1/20) made the breakthrough.
The reins were then handed over to the old timers, as Scott Milne (62) teamed with Craig Brown (48) to put on an 83-run stand to show the youngsters the value of keeping your wicket.
Youngster Keyra Smith (1/51) again mixed well with the boys, taking the valuable wicket of Scott Milne. Some late hitting from Regan Knight (19 not out) saw Canecutters reach the defendable total of 4/175.
Valleys were unable to form any lengthy partnerships in response, as a number of batsman made starts but were unable to capitalise.
Ricky Parslow (21) and Kane Nusteling (27) made handy contributions before Jayden Lane (3/67) and Cory Lucht (1/6) sent them packing. Tony Hinschen (29), Ryan Edkins (18) and Wayne Lane (22) ensured Valleys remained in the game before Howard McDonald (2/42), Scott Milne (1/22) and son Darcy Milne (1/36) all shared in the wickets to see Valleys bowled out for 170.
Tomorrow will see Canecutters taking on Warriors from 12.30pm.
This will be the last regular game this year as Whitsunday Cricket Sevens takes centre stage on December 15-16.
