SWIMMING

THE Cannonvale Cannons swimming club hosted its final interclub swim meet for 2010 on Sunday.

In what was a wonderful day, close to 90 swimmers from Bowen, Pioneer, Mirani, Whitsunday Swimming Club and Cannonvale Cannons were pool side to enjoy fabulous weather at the McDonald's Junior and Novice Sprint Meet at the Cannonvale pool.

Of the swimmers that took part in the meet, more than a quarter represented the host club.

The 25 strong Cannons team started the day well with outstanding results posted in the 100m freestyle relay events.

Ten-year-old Mika Stimson and nine-year-old Chloe Robertson both recorded A Grade times in their 50m freestyle swims.

Dane Gottschalk also achieved an A Grade time but this time in his 100m individual medley (IM) swim.

The Cannons eight-year-old swimmers also swam well on the day, continuing the club's success at the meet.

Ebony Groom and Kayla Stridion held their own in their races while Ned Barbara swam a five second personal (PB) in his 50m freestyle swim.

The event that drew the most attention for the meet though was the parent-child relay where Santa even made a splashing appearance.

After a busy carnival schedule of late, Cannons swimmers Ivan Van Zyl and Georgia Murray are now preparing themselves for the McDonald's Queensland State Championships to be held in Brisbane in the next few weeks.
