Cannons fire at State Sprint Championships
SWIMMING
SWIMMERS from the Cannonvale Cannons swimming club showed they could match it with the best in Queensland at the 2014 McDonalds State Sprint Championships held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on the weekend.
The best results for the meet came from team members Ivan Van Zyl and Dylan Barbeler with Ivan winning bronze in the 15-years 50m breaststroke and Dylan taking home silver in the 9-years 50m breaststroke.
11-year-old Angus Menzies was another standout, making the final and finishing 10th in the state in the 11-years 50m breaststroke.
The team of 11 swimmers also included Ainslie Barbeler, Jordan Menzies, Sarah and Natalie Milne, Chloe Robertson, Jackman Romanella and Emma and Kasey Hogan.
All swimmers performed well and set personal bests at the meet as they competed in a range of events across all strokes.
The Cannons also had plenty of support from the crowd with a large group of parents making the trip to cheer on their kids from the grandstands.
It was the first state championships for a number of the swimmers and they were guided by the more experienced members of the team.
The Cannons were back to training this week as they prepare for a busy swim season with meets all over North Queensland in the coming months.
