Cannons keep fit over holidays

SWIMMING

WHITSUNDAY Swimming Club and Cannonvale Cannons took part in a Christmas 'grinch' program two weeks ago at the Proserpine Memorial Swimming Pool.

Coaches Mark Erickson, Raylene Rasmussen and Ken Crittenden set the program for the swimmers to conquer before taking a break over Christmas.

The senior squad swam 7 kms, while the intermediate squad swam 5kms and junior squad swam between 3 and 2.4 kms.

It was the first time the program was hosted at the pool and included a variety of strokes and drills with kick boards and pool bouys providing a terrific opportunity for participants to give their all.

The extra training sessions for the Cannons Club at the Proserpine pool has allowed swimmers maintain their fitness.

Erickson has hosted the program across the state with other swimming clubs using it to assist with testing fitness levels as well as endurance and stamina in the pool.

Cannons club nights will start back when the school term starts with training being held every afternoon at the Proserpine pool from 3.30pm in conjunction with the Whitsunday Swimming Club.
