Cannons make splash at meet
SWIMMING: Seven Cannonvale Cannons swimmers travelled to Townsville at the weekend for the Gardens Short Course Meet.
Coach Ken Crittenden was very impressed with the swimmers, with little rest between races.
Jy Parkinson, 10, performed extremely well in all of his nine events.
His best swims earnt him first place in his age division, including the 50m freestyle in 31.46s, 100m backstroke in 1.20.93, 50m backstroke in 37.32s, 100m freestyle in 1.10.48 and 200m freestyle in 2.36.56.
Chloe Roberston, 14, entered 10 events.
She found it difficult to swim personal bests but managed to top placings for her 200m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m backstroke.
Alannis Rusk, 11, swam PBs in most of her races.
She shaved 8.6 seconds off her 100m individual medley PB, and more than two seconds off her best 100m breast stroke.
Hannah Crittenden, 14, swam PBs in her 100m IM and her 100m breaststroke.
She took 3.52 seconds off her previous 100m IM time, recording 1.30.66.
Annaleise McIntosh, 10, swam extremely well in her three events, finishing the 50m freestyle in under 45 seconds and the 50m butterfly in just over one minute.
'Madames Butterfly', Evie and Zoe Herlihy flew through the water.
Evie, 10, swam 10 events, taking a massive 12.45 seconds off her previous 100m butterfly time in 1.50.95.
She also swam huge PBs in her 100m IM, 100m backstroke and 200m and 400m freestyle.
Zoe, eight, also recorded PBs in all her swims, taking 10.14 seconds off her 50m butterfly time with an excellent effort.
The club would like to thank Darren, Emily and Mae Carter-Attwood; Ky, Rylee and Mark Erickson, Danielle Toomey, Tiana and Jacob Bell, Giselle Burton, Aiden and Claudia Payet for their outstanding efforts at the Whitsunday Running Festival barbecue.
The Cannons are now preparing to host the NQ Champs on the first weekend in August.
