Cannons skim seconds off records
CANNONVALE Cannons Georgia Murray, Chloe Robertson, Mika Stimson and Ivan Van Zyl represented the region at the State Sprint Championships in Brisbane on the weekend.
It was the first time Chloe and Mika had qualified for the state titles, with Chloe taking 2.2 seconds off her 50m backstroke and finishing 34th in the state in the 10-years girls' age group.
Mika got personal best times in all three of her swims, with the greatest margin being 3.1 seconds in her 50m freestyle event for the 11-years girls.
Mika took 1.62 seconds off her 50m free and 1.7 seconds off her 50m fly placing her 29th in the state.
It was Georgia's fourth time qualifying for the state sprints and she placed 25th in the 16-years girls 50m freestyle event and 16th in the state for 16-years girls 50m backstroke.
Not only did Georgia record some terrific results she also had the opportunity to swim in the same heat as Olympian Yolane Kukla who is also just 16 years of age.
Ivan Van Zyl competed in his third state sprint titles and recorded four personal best times in each of his four events.
In the 13-years boys 50m fly Ivan wiped 1.26 seconds off his title, 1.54 seconds in his 50 breaststroke event, 1.72 seconds in the 50m free and 1.46 seconds in his 50m backstroke race. Back at home numbers are continuing to grow, with 65 kids taking part in coaching classes at the Cannonvale Pool this week.
