Cannons take on state’s best
SWIMMING: A group of 10 Cannonvale locals have taken on more than 350 swimmers at the Garden Swim Carnival in Townsville on the weekend.
Chloe Robertson won the 50m and 100m backstroke finals while also claiming second in the 100m freestyle.
Eden Hedges also flew the flag for the Whitsundays, winning the 50m and 100m breaststroke finals while picking-up another two state qualifying times in the 200m and 400m freestyle.
Erin Everingham was another to impress, claiming third in the final of the 100m backstroke and fifth in the 200m backstroke, swimming an impressive 6.94 seconds in the latter.
Natalie Milne produced her best efforts in the 200m IM and 50m backstroke while Ivan Van Zyl swam admirably in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
Ivan, who visibly improved his rhythm, also placed third in the 100m breaststroke.
Ky Erickson PBd in the 50m backstroke (1.62 seconds) and 50m freestyle (0.54 seconds) while Hannah Crittenden also improved her times in the 50m breaststroke (0.64) and 100m freestyle (1.67).
Not to be outdone, Rylee Erickson swam four PBs over the weekend including a stunning effort in the 50m butterfly which saw her improve by a staggering 3.86 seconds.
Gus Hedges qualified for five finals over the weekend, highlighted by strong returns in the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststrokes.
Kieran McGoldrick made five finals, including the 100m breaststroke, picking up third in the final, and a time of 2.03.22 minutes in the 100m butterfly.
