UPDATE: Cannonvale man arrested after stolen vehicle crashes
UPDATE: THE 37-year-old Cannonvale man has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Proserpine Magistrate's Court this morning.
The man made no application for bail and is set to appear before the court again on Monday.
INITIAL: A 37-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following a series of incidents in Airlie Beach yesterday afternoon.
At around 1pm, a man allegedly entered the yard of an address under construction on The Cove Road in Airlie Beach, where he was involved in a verbal dispute with the builder.
The builder asked him to leave and then retreated to the home and locked the doors.
It was then alleged the man stole the builder's Holden Colorado parked at the front of the residence.
He then drove the vehicle away from the residence on the incorrect side of the road and travelled towards Airlie Beach at a high speed.
The Holden Colorado was travelling on the Esplanade when the man allegedly lost control, causing it to hit a street sign.
The man then abandoned the car and ran away on foot to nearby water, where he was found and arrested by Whitsunday Police.
The man was charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, trespass, assault police, obstruct police, and public nuisance.
He is due to appear in the Proserpine Magistrate's Court this morning.
