Car crimes prompt warning from police

POLICE are investigating the attempted theft of a Suzuki sedan parked at the Abell Point Marina car park on January 5.

The vehicle had been left locked and secured overnight. When the owner returned he found a window had been smashed and the ignition tampered with.

Officer in charge of the Whitsunday station Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan Blain said thefts from unlocked vehicles were also continuing with at least four separate incidents occurring in the Cannonvale area over the past week.

"Unfortunately for the vehicle owners this has resulted in the loss of valuable property such as mobile phones and currency," he said.

Snr Sgt Blain is again reminding people to lock their vehicles when unattended and not have items of value on display.

Police are also appealing to anyone with information to contact the Whitsunday station on 4948 8888.
