Car roll over on highway

A TOWNSVILLE man walked away unharmed after a single vehicle traffic incident on the Bruce Highway, about 5km north of Proserpine, on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the 51-year-old was travelling north on November 30 at about 4.10pm, when he swerved to avoid a steel loco wheel that had fallen off a southbound truck.

As the white Mazda BT50 dual cab ute left the bitumen it hit a steep-sided grass verge, causing it to roll and crushing the roof.

Police, firefighters and ambulance personnel attended the scene and freed the man, who was initially trapped.

Sergeant Mick Polzin from the Mackay Communications Centre said there were witnesses at the scene but the matter was still under investigation.

Anyone with further information, particularly regarding identification of the truck, is requested to contact Proserpine police.
