Celebrate Christmas with Kamahl at Prossie

ONE of Australia's most well known recording stars, Kamahl, will perform in a Christmas Morning Melodies concert at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre next Thursday, November 27.

With a track record spanning decades in show business, Kamahl is one of Australia's music industry survivors.

The rich-voiced Malaysian-born entertainer is also one of the country's most popular performers, perhaps best-known for 'The Elephant Song'.

Kamahl, who arrived in Australia in 1953, learned to sing everything from pop to the classics and was lucky enough to come under the wing of Rupert Murdoch, who became his mentor and friend.

Kamahl's first album, A Voice to Remember, was released in Australia in October 1967 and in the nearly 50 years since then, he has bloomed as a performer, songwriter and even actor.

Kamahl was a popular guest on the variety show Hey Hey It's Saturday and in the early 2000's he played cameo roles in the Australian films Harvie Krumpet and Fat Pizza.

He has performed at inumerable concerts in some of the world's most illustrious venues including the London Palladium and Carnegie Hall. He was also one of the first people to appear in concert at the Sydney Opera House.

In next week's Morning Melodies concert, he will perform his most popular songs as well as a selection of Christmas favourites.

Tickets cost $12, which includes morning tea from 10am.

The show starts at 11am.
