Celebrity chef has an appetite for Hayman

NEIL Perry is no stranger to the Whitsundays and, starting tomorrow, he's about to bless us with his standout cooking.

Mr Perry arrived in the region today to host an exclusive five-course dinner as part of MasterCard Priceless Cities presents: An Appetite for Paradise by Neil Perry.

The event, which will be held at One&Only Hayman Island, is taking place to celebrate the launch of MasterCard Priceless Cities, which offers cardholders access to unique experiences to over 40 destinations globally.

"I'll be working with my team to design a special degustation experience with food lovers in mind," Mr Perry said.

When asked what he loved most about the Whitsundays, "what's not to love?" was his first response.

"The reef is amazing, the swimming is fantastic and you get to chill out in nice warm weather," he said.

With plenty of fresh produce available, the meals he serves will be close to home.

"We've focused on local ingredients like mud crab, coral trout and the red claw marron," he said.

"We're focused on using a lot of Queensland ingredients."

Guests at One&Only will be spoiled with a voyage aboard a luxury boat around the reef while sipping cocktails and sampling canapés prepared by Mr Perry before dinner.

Mr Perry is best known for his restaurants Rockpool EST. 1989, Rockpool Bar & Grill, Spice Temple and Rosetta Ristorante.

The owner of seven restaurants with four burger projects in the works, Mr Perry said his businesses were constantly evolving.

"The things I do are quite varied and they reflect multiculturalism in Australia," he said.

"We have a wonderful multiculturalism and the food is an important part of that and gives Australia a unique and interesting Australia."
