CEO guiding airport EOI

WHITSUNDAY Regional Council CEO Scott Waters has taken on a new responsibility, working fulltime on the Expression of Interest (EOI) process at Whitsunday Coast Airport.

In the meantime, former Mackay CEO Barry Omundson is filling his shoes.

Mr Waters said the switch was needed to get "the very best" out of the EOI stage.

It appears to have worked too, with 47 respondents thus far.

"That includes institutional, airport corporations, overseas investors and also local investors," Mr Waters said.

"I can advise that that's within the first week."

With applications for partnership set to close on Tuesday, October 6, Mr Waters said the next step would be to create a shortlist to be presented to council, along with the feedback gathered through community consultations.

Mr Waters stressed that despite his appointment to the project, "council hasn't made any investment decisions at all" concerning the airport's development.

"What council is doing is working through a process," he said.
