Chamber on hunt for new year’s president

WITH Whitsunday Coast Chamber of Commerce president Kevin Collins resigning at its AGM, the chamber is on the look-out for a new president.

While the other committee members were finalised last week, chamber vice-president and current acting president Mark Beale said they would not rush a decision on the next president.

He said they would be open to anyone who was interested in applying who wanted to steer and guide the chamber's direction. He also thanked Mr Collins for his work as president.

Treasurer Paul Burke said the person needed to be the public representation of the chamber.

"The role is one that is very much the public face of the chamber," he said.

"We're looking for someone who would be willing to put the voice to the activities and interests of the chamber. They would speak on behalf of the chamber and its members in relation to key issues related to the local business community. We're keen to speak to anybody in business in the local area who'd be interested."

Mr Burke said they wanted someone who was passionate about the local business community.

"(We want) someone who'd be willing to speak with all people and who is passionate about improving business and conditions and contributing to unifying the basic mission statement of the chamber - Uniting, Supporting, Connecting and Representing the Whitsunday business community," he said. "We really want someone who can passionately support and uphold that mission."

Anyone interested in applying can contact Mark Beale on 0404 498 790 or email info@ whitsundaycoastchamber
