Champion chooks at 2015 local show
THERE was fierce competition in the Show Whitsunday chook shed this year, with almost every variety of fowl under the sun turning up to compete.
The competition saw local Wayne Quantock claim bragging rights in an astounding 45 of the 94 categories.
It was a particularly special day for first-time entrant Karen Morrison however, with the Bloomsbury resident taking out Champion Any Other Colour Pekin Bantam.
"It was just fun having an entry in the show," Ms Morrison said.
She said the judging was "so exciting", particularly because no winners were announced until every category had been decided.
"I kept running in and out saying, 'Ohh, they've got (result) cards but I don't know what they say,' " she said.
Ms Morrison also thanked Mr Quantock for his commitment to the poultry events.
"He puts in a lot of effort every year," she said. "He's there every day during the show and for days beforehand.
"And he thanked me for putting my chooks in."
Ms Morrison said she would return to the show next year to defend her newfound title.
Also taking out titles in the poultry were Jeff Dickinson of Cardwell, Dale Thomas of Proserpine, Elaine Czapracki of Townsville, Kasey Richardson of Proserpine, John Wyper of Sarina, the Turner kids of Mackay, Jack Wilson of Mackay, Ron and Sheena Hinschen, Krissinda Winn of Mirani, Marj Robb-Herrod of Bloomsbury and J. and K. Winn of Mirani.
