Chance to join the outriggers

OUTRIGGER Whitsunday is preparing for another year of training and competitive paddling with the annual sign-on and come-and-try session at Shingley Beach on Sunday, January 8, from 7.30am to 9.30am.

Club secretary Jo Ladd said outrigging was a great way to keep fit in a fun, team atmosphere that took advantage of the Whitsunday's best asset - "being on the beautiful Whitsunday water".

"It's great for families, suitable for children as young as 10, to golden masters at 60 plus," she said.

Ms Ladd said the club was already preparing for the first regatta of the year to be held in Airlie Beach on March 3.

"The club will be competing in sprint and marathon races in Pioneer Bay," she said.

Annual membership costs $100 with an additional $70 insurance charge. Membership fees cover use of all equipment including boats, paddles and safety gear. Club training sessions are held three times per week and are flexible to members' work commitments.
