Chief Justice Carmody to set conditions on resignation
QUEENSLAND Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath says her door is open for whenever Tim Carmody makes his decision about whether to stay or go as Chief Justice, but she will not be offering him anything to make the decision easier.
Justice Carmody made the decision to go public with his preparedness to resign, which he presented to the government in late April, on Monday.
He also issued a series of conditions he would like the government to agree to ahead of any departure.
As part of his legacy, if he chooses to pull the pin, Justice Carmody wants to see the courts and judiciary, which resisted his appointment from the get-go, reformed.
That includes seeing a judicial commission put in place as well as a protocol for appointing magistrates and judges.
